Starting as a sole proprietor

Prepare registration details, choose an application route and check the business register entry.

This route describes the general procedure. Some steps depend on your circumstances and may involve different authorities. Check the current requirements for each service before applying.

Getting started

First identify the activities and application route. Sole proprietor registration, selecting a tax regime and meeting requirements for the specific business are related but separate matters.

What to do

  1. Prepare activities and application details

Choose the applicable KVED activity codes and check address and contact details. Review tax-regime conditions before applying; the choice depends on the business.

  2. Choose Diia or an authorised registrar

The applicant signs an online application electronically. For a paper application, confirm reception at the specific CNAP; representation and minor applicants have additional requirements.

  3. Submit and check the application

Check personal details, activity codes and selected tax options before signing. Keep the submission confirmation and information on checking the result.

  4. Check registration in the state register

Wait for the result and check the sole proprietor entry and registration statement. Request a separate register extract if needed; these are different documents.

  5. Check obligations after registration

Check tax registration and the requirements for starting the selected activities. Use the separate amendment service if the registration details need correction or updating.

Document checklist

Tick the documents you have prepared. This is a general checklist: items marked “If applicable” are only needed in the relevant circumstances. Check the service requirements for the final document list. You do not need to upload documents to this website.

Things to consider

  • State registration as a sole proprietor is free. Separate documents, amendments and related services may have their own requirements and fees.
  • Submission confirmation is not completed registration. Check the result before activities requiring registered business status.

Continue to individual procedures

The “Starting as a sole proprietor” route connects several applications. Open the relevant procedure for your next step and check where to apply; optional actions depend on your circumstances. Checklist ticks help you organise preparation and do not confirm that an institution has completed an action.
